Inspirations

I think we have enough material to pull us out of the Word and into the world, so any reflections found here will be sporadic. This is not a blog. I pray that the words found here are always true and kind. I will always try my best to be both. I am human and will likely disappoint you. Luckily we have Jesus! I do not claim in any way whatsoever to have everything right about faith or the Church. The scariest thing about writing for an audience is the published tattoo. I will make mistakes, I will be wrong, I will grow and change my mind and be sharpened by the Lord and by you. And praise God for that! Praise God that we can never have Him all figured out, all at once, nice and neat. But let’s never quit trying. Come try beside me. And let’s count on changing together.

Worthy of Celebration

I have scoliosis. I never notice it except when I practice yoga. I love yoga, I believe in yoga, but yoga is a little wonky for me.
In some poses my hips won't square, in others there's no space available to take the bind, and some are down right painful.
But this day, today, I am thankful for my scoliosis because I just realized something.
I have tendencies for perfectionism. It's all or nothing with me. Full tilt, top speed, 100%, out of this world or... nah, I'm good.
Because excellence, it is important to me.
But excellence isn't possible in yoga. My back wouldn't even allow it if it were.
I simply can't hold myself to rigid standards.
They aren't possible.
Instead, I have had to learn the value of trying without attachment to the outcome. I have had to learn the beauty of the journey with little insistence on the destination.
With that realization, I'm experimenting more these days with far less concern of how well I try. And far less dependence on what others think about my trying.
This imperfection has healed something broken.
And it all started with a jacked up back and something I loved enough to practice anyway.
Friends, our sincere efforts, regardless of how any of it turns out, are worthy of celebration.
